‘Just like old times’: Paige Bueckers grateful as she returned for UConn women’s basketball opener
Storrs, CT - Paige Bueckers was finally back on the court for UConn women's basketball on Sunday, nearly a year after tearing her left ACL. The junior point guard looked like her old self, leading the Huskies to a 92-40 victory over Northeastern in their season opener.
Bueckers finished with 15 points, 8 assists, and 6 steals in 27 minutes of action. She shot 5-of-11 from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.
"It felt just like old times," Bueckers said after the game. "I was so excited to be back out there with my teammates and competing. It was a lot of fun."
Bueckers' return is a huge boost for UConn, which is looking to win its 12th national championship in program history. The Huskies lost four starters from last year's team, including Bueckers.
"Paige is our best player," UConn coach Geno Auriemma said. "To have her back is huge. She makes us a much better team."
Bueckers is grateful to be back on the court, but she knows that there is still room for improvement.
"I'm not at 100 percent yet," Bueckers said. "But I'm getting there. I'm working hard every day to get back to my old self."
UConn will next face Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Thursday.
