Miss Nicaragua wins the 2023 Miss Universe pageant


In a historic moment for Nicaragua, Sheynnis Palacios was crowned Miss Universe 2023 on Saturday night in San Salvador, El Salvador. Palacios, a 23-year-old TV host and model, is the first contestant from her country to win the prestigious title.

Palacios beat out 89 other contestants from around the world, including first runner-up Antonia Porsild of Thailand and second runner-up Moraya Wilson of Australia.

"I am so honored to represent my country and to be the first Miss Universe from Nicaragua," Palacios said after her win. "I want to use this platform to empower women and girls around the world to believe in themselves and never give up on their dreams."

Palacios' win was met with widespread celebration in Nicaragua. The country's president, Daniel Ortega, congratulated Palacios on her victory and called her "a shining example of Nicaraguan beauty and intelligence."

Palacios is a graduate of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Nicaragua, where she studied communications. She is also a passionate advocate for education and women's empowerment.
